Ramblings of an Idle Mind: Frolic through the playground of my mind

Back in the Saddle… Again

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on us. Since my last post several months ago, many things have changed in the world; thankfully, only a handful of those changes have actually been in my personal world. I have moved across the country with my family, gotten settled in what is perhaps the most beautiful area of our great nation, transitioned to working from home and even made several new contacts in both the gaming and internet industries. One of my only regrets through all that is that I have not had time to make even a single blog entry.

I have made a decision to put a little more priority on my writing, though. Through some recommendations and advice I have received through a few different channels, I have a renewed interest in writing that has been dormant since well before I entered college. No, I don’t aspire to drop my servers and scripting languages in favor of a quill, but I do want to at least pursue the possibility of doing a little writing on those topics which I find myself to be most passionate.

Unsurprisingly, those topics usually have something to do with programming, web development or video games (or a combination of the above). While I am not the most eloquent speaker (or writer), I feel that I have enough creative ideas and the ability to communicate them in such a way so that I may actually be able to do something profitable with them one day. My ultimate interest in writing actually stems from a desire to take part in designing an RPG from the ground up while I was in high school. In fact, it is not widely known except to those few who were closest to me during those years that I even had pages upon pages of notes, diagrams and brainstorming ideas for everything from maps and a bestiary to character bios and concept weapons.

As crazy as it may sound, I still have an interest to be part of a design project of that caliber. No, I don’t have the time I once did to spend hours a day making notes and coming up with fanciful tales, but those creative juices are still there, and sometimes they beg to be released. In fact, I have developed ideas for everything from a classical fantasy novel in the vein of greats like JRR Tolkien to a full RPG based on a combination of Greek, Norse and other mythologies.

Needless to say, I hope that in the days, weeks and months to come, I will have more creative entries to share with those few who may still regular this blog after these long dormant months. Whether I will ever be able to find a creative outlet for all the ideas in my head or simply continue to enjoy considering them myself, only time will tell, but suffice to say that if the opportunity arises, I would jump at the chance to take part in a design project to which I might be able to be a substantial addition.
